Gavin Luck – A320 pilot

Hi Lou!

Just finished a week of flying with my new Bigatmo’s and they are AMAZING on the flight deck!  I absolutely love them.  My only wish is that the lenses were a touch taller, if that makes sense.  They let just a touch of light in on the bottom of the lenses near my cheek bone.  Other than that….very small issue…they are the best sunglasses I have found for flying the A320!!!!

Thanks again,

Gavin Luck

Hi Lou,

My sunglasses were arrived on the last Saturday, it’s perfect !

As I practice a lot of glider, airplane and Ultra Light Motorised flight (I’am an instructor and examiner to issue french licenses), I was a former airline pilot in France (retired for 1 year from now), your products are the best protections I know for reading the sky and observing the clouds.

It was a colleague and friend who made me discover your sunglasses several years ago.

That’s the reason for these bought.

Best regards.

Thierry

Hi Lou

Both sets of glasses are excellent as always – thank you.

Hello,

I’ve recently bought ‘Tropo – Polished Titanium Frame Gold Mirror Copper/Brown Photochromic Sunglasses’  from yourself, they are amazing, changed my view whilst flying massively.

Alicia

Hi Lou,

Hope you are well.  I’ve been meaning to write a quick thank you for a fortnight, but relentlessly busy somehow!

Having flown in my sunglasses quite a bit now I’m delighted with them.  I had almost no trouble getting used to them and was driving in them within a day; the only thing that caught me a little bit was glancing sideways at something in peripheral vision without turning my head too much, where it’s a bit blurry until you tilt your head to focus through the right part of the lens – soon got used to it.

“Anyway, the tint, clarity, and useability are fab; new favourites, thank you!  The help, fitting pack, and advice in optimising the sunglasses and prescription made such a difference.”

Thank you,

Alicia.

I just wanted to say how delighted I am with my new Rx Sunglasses. The wait was definitely worth it.

I flew with them today and the prescription is spot on but even better is the transition zone. It is possible to look at my kneeboard, Instruments and Outside by just moving my eyes, very little need to move my head at all.

Perfect.

I received the glasses the day after you sent them and really enjoyed the packaging, lanyard and personal note from you 🙂 !
I brought them with me on my flights and after the first flight I was convinced that they will be replacing my previous glasses (different brand with grey lenses).
Even on the ground, under an overcast layer of cloud, I could see everything really crisp and with no reduction of light. This is what I really enjoy about the Bigatmos – you get reduction of glare without reducing the light levels coming through the lenses. It is something I previously have been missing not being able to use polarised glasses for flying.
I found that I was keeping the glasses on for the whole flight. So I am really really happy with my purchase and also how they look – very elegant and very light and strong.

Hi Lou,

Just a note to say thanks for the sunglasses.

I wore them all day yesterday in a range of light conditions and they certainly lived up to expectations.  They adjusted superbly to the light conditions, and I forgot I was wearing them.  A big improvement on the sunglasses they are replacing!

Many thanks,

James.

Hi Louise,
Thanks for your email, looking forward to receiving my sunglasses!
I have been a customer for years now, first seen your stand at one of the airshows in the UK some very long time ago, and this will be a replacement for an identical pair I have successfully scratched in a most inconvenient place right in the middle of the field of view (I think this was actually the pair I bought at that airshow then).
Love how light and durable these sunglasses are, do feel sorry sometimes I only got one head so only need two pairs at most 🙂
Best regards,
Tatiana.

Received the gasses today. They are great! The lenses in particular are really impressive.

Been wearing them this morning and no problems at all.

Many thanks for the sunnies and for your service. Very impressive!

Hello again,

I use of theses sunglasses since 3 years for my flight on glider (my first pleasure) as like on french  airliner (my first job).

So nice to “see and read” the cloud and the ground with it.
My first contact with Bigatmo was by the french national glider team (many friends use of them).
It’s my favorite sun glasses for all the time now
Many thanks for that.
 Bye bye
Thierry

Thank you for the message left on my answer machine on Friday.

While disappointed that it seems that your sunglasses are not meant for me, I appreciate the time you have taken to try and resolve the problem and commend you on your customer service.

“I’ve had my Bigatmo sunglasses for 6 months now, and can say beyond doubt that they are by far the best sunglasses that I’ve ever owned! The build quality, fit, light weight and look are all fantastic and get admiring comments from everyone who sees them, but for me their most amazing feature is their vision quality. Whatever the light conditions, they deliver a fantastic view….so much so that I often prefer to wear them even when I don’t need any sunglasses on at all! I’ve always seen my previous sunglasses as an accessory, but I very much see my Bigatmo sunglasses as a key part of my daily wardrobe.”

Professor Michael Bagshaw

Professor Michael Bagshaw has been a customer of ours for some years now and he has shared his thoughts about Bigatmo.

Here’s a quick summary of his professional background to give context and it is, frankly, just very impressive.

This is what he said:

‘Anyway, here’s me:

PPL when at school.

University Air Squadron when at medical school.

Joined RAF – flew Hunters and Jaguars and instructed at Cranwell.

Medical Test Pilot at Farnborough.

Retired to be NHS GP and hospital consultant.

Then Head of Medical Services at British Airways.

Continued flying part-time as Hawker business jet captain and PPL instructor and flight examiner.

Professor of Aviation Medicine at King’s College London.

Own Twin Comanche which fly all over Europe.

Teach aeros in Bulldog.

‘Bigatmo prescription varifocals most effective and comfortable spectacles of any I have worn for day-to-day life, flying and driving.

Lightweight and perfect fit and optically superb. Integrate well with ANR headset.

Did some work in the 1980s at Farnborough developing corrected flying spectacles for military aircrew – a pity Bigatmo were not available then!’

The lenses are great, really powerful and when I was landing, ground had to change the runway after me as the sun was right down the middle of 22, the sun was very powerful and was head on and I did one of my better landings and it didn’t put me off at all.

I had Ray Bans before which were smaller lenses and these cover more and really don’t let anything else in, they are probably 1.5 times the size.

I found the frame when I first tried them on to be quite tight and they kind of scratched off the side of my face, I thought they would be tight when I would wear them but this wasn’t the case, when I was flying didn’t feel them at all and I noticed a much better improvement in my vision

Mark Jones

As any wearer of varifocals will testify, their effectiveness depends upon a fusion of accurate prescription, precise measurement and flawless manufacture.  Ordering such an item from a website requires a belief in the company, the staff and the product and Bigatmo have excelled on all counts.

When my varifocal Meso’s arrived they were a total success and I am absolutely delighted with them.  The lenses are crystal clear and distortion-free even at the curvature.  Peripheral vision is greatly improved, and they are a joy to use both inside and outside the cockpit.

I could not be more satisfied.  Very many thanks indeed!

Luca Bertossio

Sunglasses have arrived today! I love the shape, the low weight, the tightness around my face and the comfort on the nose.

Clare Townley

This is just to say a great big thank you for your fabulous glasses and what they mean to me. When I first bought them two yrs. ago I already had a large collection of sunglasses all prices, fashions, styles and designers (the top branded ones too Chanel… Dior… Ray ban…Prada… Oakley …French connection… Police to name a few but over the course of time the ONLY ones I want to wear are yours!

Don’t take my word for it see for yourself I’ve flicked over my snapshots from my phone just to show you!

Incidentally if I accidentally forget them whilst rushing out even though there are several pairs in the car I will turn around and collect them for the day!

They’ve also stood up the test of time and wear and tear too as you’ll see from the photos they’re still looking good!

Methinks it’s time for a new pair but I don’t think I can wear two at once! Photos to follow…

Antony Smith

I had been after a pair of sunglasses particularly suitable for flying for a while. I tried a few well-known brands and found whatever I tried there was always something that didn’t seem right. This was particularly true when it came to wearing them with headphones and on long flights and in varying light conditions. The lonos I got from Bigatmo however have not disappointed. They are high end spec but feel it from the first time you wear them. Flew from Wellesbourne to the Isle of Man and they are quite simply superb. Good customer care!

Jake Brattle wearing Bigatmo sunglasses and sitting in his glider before racing in France. Jake Brattle – Junior World Champion – Glider Pilot

One of the most important factors for success in competitive gliding is excellent eyesight. Unfortunately, as a pilot with myopia (short sightedness), I am at a natural dis-advantage and so I rely heavily on my eye wear to make up for this.

Good long-distance vision is key for racing in gliders – I need to see that split-second glint from a competitor’s glider many kilometres ahead, while differentiating between sunny and shadowy terrain on the horizon to pick out the optimal ‘racing line’ through the sky.

Unobstructed peripheral vision is equally vital to allow detection of the most subtle visual cues such as the wandering of a bird of prey marking the centre of a thermal or to sense the tiniest movements of my glider to help ‘feel’ my way into a thermal’s core.

My Bigatmos allow just that. The ‘Tropo’ lens is large and the frame wraps around my head which means my vision is completely unobstructed. The quality of the lens is excellent allowing me to see as far as possible into the distance. The photochromic feature of the lens allows quick adjustment between dark and bright environments which noticeably reduce eye fatigue over the course of a long, 5hrs+, race.

I use them on every flight, in every season across environments ranging from the vibrant colours and contrasts over the French Alps to the very bright blue skies over South Africa.

Having spent thousands over the years on my glider, instruments and equipment; I am confident my Bigatmos are the best-value purchase I’ve made to help me on my never-ending quest to reach my peak performance.

I am a 50+ year old professional helicopter pilot who doesn’t like having to wear glasses to read the altimeter subscale!

If that sounds familiar then read on.

Started with cheap reading glasses & then tried bifocals from the optician. These work but I felt my vision was obscured by the frames, lense edges and transition between lense zones. I then tried some high street progressives but the distortion was hard to tolerate.

Bigatmo have made me a pair of untinted wraparound progressives that I acclimatised to very quickly. They give me close, intermediate & distance correction, flying day and night, without the problems mentioned above.

Dan

My replacement glasses have just arrived and they are BRILLIANT!  Thanks so much for the great customer service.

Rinze Douma

Two days ago I have encountered great drama, I lost my Bigatmo’s! I’m so disappointed, I don’t even know how I managed. All I know is I went out for the walk-around in Barcelona and during the push back they were gone. I feel less complete now..

Since I really loved these glasses (they are absolutely perfect for flying), I would like to replace them, and I see the range is unchanged. With summer on the way I would be thrilled to have another pair. Thanks so much!

Reint Jonker

I received my IONO sunglasses yesterday! Very quick dispatch. And wow

I love em! Design/build quality, all top notch! Thank you so much

William Bath

Thank you for your really prompt service.

Really thrilled with the sun glasses and arrived just in time for my holiday.

I think it was the trade press (flying) which brought my attention to them.

I wasn’t sure which lens would give the best definition between the grey of runways and surrounding grass areas. I’m keeping these anyway but I would welcome any technical comment.

Brilliant glasses brilliant service. I’m going to buy some for my lads at present time.

S.C. Commercail Pilot

The glasses arrived today thank you and they are brilliant!

I won’t get a chance to try them at work for a few days but I can tell that they will be just what I was hoping for.

The varifocal lenses were the right choice I think so thank you for the advice and all of the personal guidance, excellent service all round.

Lindsay Brown

‘I recently took the leap of faith and purchased the Bigatmo Tropo Frames with Alutra Prescription Varifocal lenses. They look fantastic and are very comfortable – worn for hours at a time with a Bose A20 headset. The lenses are excellent and cope well with the transition from a bright 37000 feet sky through descent to a British grey day landing. I did initially have some concerns about the varifocal setup. I have a previous smaller pair of clear varifocals, so thought it would simply be a matter of popping them on and going. However, perhaps because of the larger lens area, my brain took a few days of wear to feel comfortable with these varifocal lenses. Initially, I felt that the corridor for intermediate distance (instrument panel ) was very small and even just a slight move of the head would lose the ‘sweet spot’. But the brain is an amazing thing and despite my concerns adapted reasonably quickly. The Bigatmo team were pretty good at reassuring me that this was normal – as it is a little unsettling to think you have bought the wrong thing and feel like you are not going to adapt. They stuck with me and did offer return options if things didn’t work out. They did. And I now really enjoy having an excellent pair of sunglasses which allow me to fly with comfort and confidence.’

John Bridge

I have now had the opportunity to try out my new sunglasses in flight and I am happy to report that they are excellent. There is some very minor distortion but I quickly got used to that and they are a vast improvement on my previous glasses.

Thanks for a great service!

‘Soaring (or gliding, it all depends where in the world you are) at 30,000 feet and still climbing at a generous 600 feet a minute with no engine, maybe is easier than many people think. Our atmosphere has so much energy that is not known to many. But it is out there. Soaring in mountain wave condition is the holy grail of glider pilots.

After mastering the glider you fly, perfect your flying skills and reach the proper state of mind,  to perform these flights it all comes down to preparation and dependence on reliable equipment that will perform at extreme cold (-45C), winds and turbulence.

Vision being one of our most valued senses must be preserved at these altitudes where the UV radiation and the sun is shining brighter despite the fact the sky turns to a darker blue.

Once flown with the Bigatmo Tropo I can’t imagine going up there without them again.’

Mike Anastasiou is an airline captain with more than 13,000 hours in the air. Test pilot for airliners as well as for Pipistrel advanced light sport aircraft as well as seaplanes, he spends more time flying than walking. He commanded B747, Airbus 300, 320 and soon moving to the A380. Gliding is his passion and he does not consider it flying, but a state of mind that needs precision and sound decision making.

20 years of flying he tried many sunglasses. In his own words about Bigatmo: ‘Simply the best shades I ever had. Amazing contrast, clarity with zero distortion when I have to tilt them over my oxygen mask. Why I could not had them earlier.’

Just had my first flight with the new sunglasses. They are fantastic and the Alutra lens works really well with the varying light conditions.

Really impressed with the quality of my varifocal sunglasses and the service provided by Bigatmo. All frame and lens selection done from home with great support from the Bigatmo team. Highly recommended.

Thanks again, very impressed. If you want to include an endorsement on your website feel free.

For the last 4 months I have been using the Bigatmo Tropo sunglasses with photocromatic alutra lenses. I have used many sunglasses in my 3 decades of flying around the globe. These include amonst others; Serengeti and Ray Ban with varying lenses. The Bigatmos are by far the best so far. The frame just about fits my head perfectly and the titanium frame fits so well I forget I am actually wearing them. My working days here at Norwegian are long and intense with all kinds of lighting levels. I wear them all day and even into early evening. The lenses are extremely good. I can always see the displays with ease and the colour transmission is top notch. Yes I know people still go for the Aviators. But when you grow up in flying there comes a point you become more interested in the performance of the product rather than looks alone. I have 2 sons following in my footsteps and yes they both have fallen for the Top Gun looks.

Commercial airline pilot wearing Bigatmo sunglasses sitting in the flightdeck of an airbus Iain Baldie

After flying with a big name brand for over ten years I always had trouble with darker lenses when transitioning from high altitude to below the clouds. I found that I would need to take my glasses off once on final approach if we were flying under cloud as the instrumentation could become difficult to see.

The Alutra photochromatic lenses were the perfect balance in the above situation and I found that my vision was actually enhanced.

I also found that when flying in hazy, cloudy or flat light conditions the above was still true and I had much better depth and colour perception. It’s like seeing in high definition!

I really am still wowed every time I put these glasses on whether it’s for flying, driving, cycling or walking in the woods.

I will continue to buy Bigatmo sunglasses for as long as they keep making them!

Adrian James

The Bigatmo’s were absolutely fantastic on our skiing holiday, especially with the anti-fog gel.  I skied all day, and never took the glasses off.  The polarisation was faultless and totally indispensible.  I had great confidence in having great vision throughout the day, with the knowledge that I was protecting my eyes from harmful UV, as well as knowing that my eyes would not be as tired at the end of the day.

I know that I work for a different lens company, and that we do not specialise in polarising products, but I am, and will continue to be, an advocate of your product.

I now keep my Bigatmo’s in the car for when they are required on sunny days, or when the sun is particularly low, and I need the anti-glare protecting provided by your polarising lenses.

Bigatmo sunglasses are a big help to my condition of blocked tear ducts. The reactolite glasses I use mean I can wear them when hazy to full sunshine and this makes a big difference as I have been told by doctors and opticians to wear sunglasses more to help protect my eyes and stop them from watering so much. I did not wear sunglasses so much before as felt uncomfortable but now the fit is so good you hardly know you are wearing them – the frames are so light and the clarity of the lens excellent.

Thank you Bigatmo!

Stuart Pink

I chose the bespoke Alutra lens for flying.  The sunglasses sharpen everything, taking any glare away. They react so fast to different light conditions, but you don’t know they are reacting.  I forget I am wearing the sunglasses, they are very comfortable. “When buying the sunglasses online, it was very reassuring to have an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person at the end of the phone, giving me the confidence to make a purchase. There’s no going back now, Bigatmo are great as sunglasses for pilots, and I also wear them everywhere else too!

Lembit Opik

There are very few things you can buy which make the whole world seem sharper and more sublime, but Bigatmo sunglasses are one of them. They have to be seen through to be believed, because words can’t do justice to how good they truly are. I’m serious! Try them and see for yourself

Camping with Bigatmo sunglasses Emma Wilkinson

I have been a Bigatmo sunglass owner for over three years now. I am delighted with them and I am proud to say I have not lost them in all that time. I have become increasingly aware that as I have become older how affected I am by light. Particularly reflective light but also other lights, strip lights, torch light, candle light, spot lights.

My symptoms are glaringly obvious now with hindsight but at the time no-one recognised what was the cause of my symptoms. I’d been to the opticians several times in ten years to be tested however each time they could find no fault with my eyes. It was rare for me not to have a headache, I had suffered with frequent migraines and intermittent stomach migraines since I was a child. The longer and brighter the sunlight the more extreme the symptoms became. Relief came on dull grey days and I began to dislike long periods of glorious weather. I’d be irritable and quick to anger, less likely to be forgiving of other peoples mistakes especially when on the road. Become unreasonably exhausted after a couple of hours driving, I used to get tension in my neck and jaw. I sometimes clenched my teeth together so hard and for great lengths of time that I eventually damaged them! At its extreme, I became hyper sensitive to taste, touch, smell and hearing.

Before stumbling across your Sunglasses I was a person that rarely wore sunglasses for any length of time, let alone knew much about them. I had no idea that I had found the elite, top of the range advance jobbywhatnot lenses! I would often buy sunglasses in multiples of two, different shapes and styles, some from the cheap end of the market some from the more expensive end. The lens colours would be subtly different. I found that with the majority I would discard them within a week as they were just not right. Or I’d be wearing two pairs at the same time to get the correct lens shade. The lenses were either too dark or pale or the wrong tint, none of the frames fitted properly and were uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. If the lenses felt good I’d persevere with the frames. I’d add sticky tape and cardboard or similar to the arms to get them to stay on. So although I had many pairs of sunglasses, I had rarely worn any of them for more than a few hours a day.

It was a total revelation to find your product. I am now rarely without them and if I ever have the need to replace them I would. Instantly. They are so worth it. I would wear no other.

The first time I tried them on, it was mid-March on a bright clear day with blue skies. The relief was instant, not only to my eyes but all of me. I knew there and then they were like no other that I had tried before. I bought then without hesitation. They stayed on my face all day and all evening. I took them off only to go to sleep. They went on again the next day and the next, dawn till dusk pretty much for the first 15 weeks. I felt like someone had thrown me a life ring! They had – it was you!

18 months ago my daughter was screened at school for Irlems syndrone. I looked it up on the internet! I was tested. I wear my filters in poor light and my Bigatmos in brighter light conditions. I find the clarity of the Bigatmo lenses far superior to my filters.

Up until last weekend I had only seen a couple of people wearing BigAtm0. However, I met up with a few friends for a family camping experience last week and between us we had seven pairs of your amazing glasses. We couldn’t speak more highly of them. Some of us prefer the grey lenses and others the Alutra. All of us share the same feelings about our BigAtm0 Sunglasses, they are amazing and we wouldn’t be without them.

They are even great for tired, smoky, hungover eyes.

I have been meaning to write for three years and say thank you so much for developing something that truly does make a difference to me. Every day they enhance my life.

I have to say that I have had a few snags with my glasses along the way and I think I am now on pair number 3. I did say I was proud of myself for not losing them, but I have had a pair stolen and I recently crushed a pair when I forgot they were in my coat pocket. Actually to be totally honest I don’t think it’s that extravagant to have a new pair each year. (It.s about 70p a day.) Cheeper than parking a car for an hour in Ashford! My irlem filters require replacing every 6 months and they are about the same price if not more.

PS: How to ever thank you? Suddenly it dawned on me! Shortly after sunrise the morning after the night before, I stumbled across this scene and couldn’t resist grabbing my camera. It all made sense to me.

Some of our BigAtmos hanging out together where they had been abandoned.”

Chris Brehm

I found out about Bigatmo from a pilot colleague when I started flying the airbus A320 and couldn’t see the dim displays; particularly the FMGC, down in the shade.

I had tried a number of Ray Bans and Oakley’s but they were all pretty much the same; i had to peer over them to see the text, particularly green and magenta.

I got the zeolite lenses, unmirrored, in a Strato graphite frame. They made a big big difference because they let in some narrow bands of the spectrum which I need to see.

They are also light; I don’t even think about the fact I’m wearing them anymore.   The arms are really slender, bayonet-type to fit under a headset, yet are more secure than any I’ve experienced due to their springiness.

The Strato shape is pretty cool; looks like Neo in the Matrix.

I’m really pleased to have sunglasses so tailored to my needs as a pilot.  The long search is over!

Jay D. Jones

Flew with them since Lleida and was very satisfied with fit with headphones and all round general use.

Mike Mundell

These are the best sunglasses I have ever had. Ideal for flying because they are so comfortable under a headset

Professional Pilot

I was in need of getting myself a pair of prescription sunglasses. I’ve been working as an airline pilot for the past 24 years, most of them without a decent pair, so I decided to go searching for the best ones. I came across Bigatmo’s web page, and after a good research about them and some thorough reviews of other brands, I went for Bigatmo’s; the best decision ever.

I purchased a pair of prescription “gunmetal Tropo frame with Zeolite lens and iridescent blue mirror finish”. (Model 0051)

The sunglasses are superb, really light weight. I wear them for almost seven hours straight during my flights without even noticing them. They don’t distort the colours in the cockpit instruments, while still giving you an excellent protection from the sunlight. The product is well finished in all aspects, and the best part of it, they make me look good when I’m wearing them.  Plus, their customer service is as good as the sunglasses itself, really friendly and diligent to accommodate any requirement you may have.

I highly recommend them; there will be no regrets

Nigel Champness

I am enjoying having a high quality pair of glasses, the first for years.

As I no longer fly, I am using them for sitting around a pool in the south of France right now! They would suit anybody who likes the aviator look, but also wants a lens that performs.  Good luck with the business!

Matt Dearden

I love my Bigatmo’s! The styling is great and different to the standard aviator style sunglasses you see most pilots sporting. The main thing for me is the fit is excellent; the thin arms slide snugly under my headset with no noise leak and the wraparound style helps protect my eyes from all that harsh, tropical sunshine. The photochromic lenses are fantastic at adapting to the rapidly changing conditions too when I descend into the darker conditions under a cloud layer. Basically, they’re the best flying sunnies I’ve ever had and they’re handy for cycling too!

Luke Ashton

After a very informative and friendly chat with founder and director Louise, I had the opportunity to try a pair of Bigatmo sunglasses as product placement and to see how different running could be compared to a basic sports lens with little quality or suitable protection.

Bigatmo Sunglasses are highly recommended for: Driving, Flying, Motorcycling, Cycling, Running, Fishing, Golfing, Skiing and Sailing.

At first glance, what is most noticeable is the feel and just how light these frames actually are…
With a rigid fully Titanium frame to the top, centre and edges. Then a softer, lighter and flexible Titanium to the nose clips, arms and ear tips for slight movement when needed.

These Meso frames have a gun metal finish to the design and edges, giving that aviation feel. The hinges even have a shuttle and smooth aerodynamic engine look to them.

The Meso frames come as a snug and light fit, so they will be a good choice for many sporting activities. The ear tips are finished with a super slim design that is perfect to fit under my cap, and feel moulded to my head…complete with extra nose pads, polishing cloth and hard case.

On first trying on the frames they were very snug and I was worried maybe a little too tight for my dimensions. The ear tips press quite rightly to my head. Then after 4-5 days of wear the frame seemed to mould and felt much more comfortable and I actually forgot I was wearing sunglasses..

I tried the sunglasses in very bright sunlight conditions to start with and they seemed so clear and sharp with every detail. The Alutra lens has a light activated feature that adjusts to the environment. Which was one of the reasons I feel they were best suited to my long distance running, with all the conditions my eyes are exposed to…The Alutra has an instant reactive shade to them that darkens in those brighter uv conditions.

Weather changes are perfect for the Photochromic light reactive lens of the Alutra. Instantly reacting to the increase in UV light. Whereas the tint of the lens remains lighter in cloudier conditions

To begin with I tried the Bigatmo Meso on a very sunny day out walking and through my local woods. I was amazed at the sheer clear clarity and sharpness of every detail. The lens brightened up in shaded areas and then darkened when in direct sunlight.

I tried a short jog to see how secure the sunglasses felt on my nose. Slightly loose and a bounce to them so I made sure to pinch the nose grips inwards once home.

I spent over an hour walking with them and eventually I forgot I was wearing them as they are so light. They do feel rather snug, so I am hoping this will loosen with wear during the week.

I have used them to driving to work which is a 30 minute journey. The road signs and car detail is very sharp, rather like when I used to wear prescription glasses.

Colours seem more vibrant but softer to the eye in brighter light conditions. Soon enough the frames felt less snug to my head and very comfortable. The titanium has moulded very well to my dimensions.

The lenses perform great in hazy cloud and over cast days. The detail is much clearer and brighter like in sunny conditions. This is very useful and needed when cycling.

It is so important to protect the eyes with outdoor activities. I had Laser correction treatment 9 years ago, so really I should be wearing good quality lenses all the time in daylight.

I suffered with bad side effects after the procedure and my eyes are now extra sensitive to pollutants, dust and dry conditions because of this. Wearing photo chromic lenses should hopefully help relieve some of these.

It was the London Marathon on 26th April with very dark cloud and damp conditions. Rain was forecast but it stopped just before the start of the race. I kept the sunglasses on for the entire duration of the marathon without any problems. I only needed to remove them briefly to wipe sweat from my eyes. I was worried of fogging to the lens with the damper and more humid conditions, but with a strong cool breeze it seemed to prevent any chance of this occurring.

They most certainly brighten up those dark cloudy days and everything was much more detailed, which was helpful in such a crowded environment.

Lens react when the conditions change.

I am so impressed with how these sunglasses suit my everyday activities and can be worn all the time with comfort.

They are definitely a permanent fixture in my kit list for the future and looking forward to running the next ultra event in them!

I used the sunglasses in earnest for the first time last month for my break in Malaga. Temperatures were mid to late 70+ all week, with glorious sunshine so therefore the BIGATMO sunglasses really came into their own I must say that they performed really well and would certainly recommend them to any persons who were considering buying a decent pair of sunglasses the quality was outstanding.

I’ve been flying gliders for more than 37 years and tried numerous styles and types of sunglasses in a long term search for the best for glider pilots. None have ever come close to the environment provided by Bigatmo Glasses, which are ideal for providing the contrast and clarity required for serious soaring, they do exactly what it says on the Bigatmo website and I commend you to look there, but that is not the point of this note:–

Many Glider pilots will know, as we get older, the need for optically corrected sunglasses increases and then they become more complicated when we need varifocals. Experience has shown that usually varifocals and gliding don’t mix, as you end up like a nodding dog trying the get the distance segment (the upper portion) of the lens, low enough to see the ground over the canopy edge.

When it comes to glasses, Glider pilots needs differ significantly from our GA & ATPL friends, as we spend most of the time looking out of the cockpit, with systematic checks of the instruments, which due to our seating configuration are always in a very defined focal length.

I really wanted a pair of Bigatmo’s for all the reasons they say on their website, but I also needed them varifocal, so I invited Alastair Carrie of Bigatmo to 615VGS and showed him the problem and how it’s made worse by the reclined seating position we adopt. He took on board all the issues unique to us Glider pilots, where we need a very large area of the lens for distance, and a much reduced area low down in the frame for instruments and FRC’s etc. and took the problem back for discussion with his team.

The end result was Bigatmo, provided me with bespoke varifocal sunglasses with a very shallow close vision segment in the bottom, just large enough for reading FRC’s and Maps at 450mm, with a very narrow intermediate lens just above it for the instruments at 600mm and the remainder (the majority of the lens) for distance vision.

The quality of the lens and the transition between the various focal lengths is indiscernible, they are the most comfortable varifocal glasses I have ever had, and combine that with all the clarity, contrast and quality issues that these glasses provide I have no hesitation in commending these glasses, optically correct or not, to all fellow glider pilots. They also look very smart so can be used any time.”

The sunglasses you sent have arrived, and they are awesome. Can’t wait to use them in the Yak-52 I fly.

I certainly feel my new Bigatmo glasses are lightweight and very comfortable even with a headset on.  The lenses allow for a clear definition while looking out of the cockpit and good colour definition while looking inward at the flight instruments.

I heard about Bigatmo through my son. Ordered a pair of EXO sunglasses for him a couple of years ago – he’s a helicopter pilot. I wore them while driving into a low sun last month and found the clearer vision was amazing so decided to get my own pair.

I am exceptionally impressed – the optics are really sensational – crystal sharp over the whole complete lens. I can honestly say I have never had such good quality sunglasses. (You don’t realise quite how bad the optics on some other makes are until you’ve tried a pair of these).

Golf… I have changed my ball, changed my clubs and changed my swing; but, since finding my Bigatmos, I have had no reason to change my sunglasses. My golf still sucks but I no longer get eye strain… nor do they slip down my nose over those ‘critical’ putts…

I think your website is excellent, very informative and well put together and was extremely easy to use.  The service you give is first class and was much appreciated.  You are obviously very enthusiastic about the product, know lots about the whole sunglass “thing”, and offered me outstanding guidance and information.  It was a far superior service to that I have tried to get in professional opticians, and is backed up by the fact that you both know and understand the environment in which I shall be using the glasses.  I’m not a big fan of buying sunglasses but this has been a very happy process, so thank you both very much.  I shall sing your praises far and wide

I chartered a boat on Saturday from Poole and took some friends. We fished south of the isle of white various species were caught Bass, Mackerel, Plaice and Rays. The glasses were very comfortable no need for a lanyard to stop them falling of my head into the sea. The polarised glasses gave good vision into the sea when netting the fish below water. They offer a good protection to angler’s eyes from the reflection of the water. I do all sorts of angling sea fishing in the UK around the world, Coarse and fly fishing in the UK, these glasses would suite all these versions of angling.

“We are delighted with them and offer everyone the chance to try them on.” Attached is a picture taken yesterday during a photoshoot by an award winning photographer for a prestigious magazine using one of our cars. As you probably guessed he was not responsible for this snap.

After researching many so called aviation sunglasses, many of which are just fashion glasses and do not perform in a professional working environment, I came across the Bigatmo web site. I chose the Alutra Photochromic lens and have no hesitation in recommending it for professional aviation use.

Proof that I’m making good use of your sunglasses! Very pleased with my purchase.

After longer time with worn sunglasses I feel a little pain on left eye, however this is not strong pain and there is no any dizziness. So I think I can keep like this.

Flying is very comfortable, there is no any free space between skin and headset. At the first day frames were fitted strongly to the face but now is excellent. Vision quality is excellent.
